Welfare or MLM to gloom?

Well with all the doom and gloom surrounding us everyday through the media it is no wonder that many people are just very depressed right now. Those of us who are fortunate enough to have been introduced to a good Network Marketing programme are on the other hand feeling very positive. More than ever we have the gift that in the right hands can change many people's economic and personal life for the better.

I'm writing this to bring some of this into perspective for those who are new to the MLM industry and are mistakenly buying some of the gloomy stuff and thinking that no one will ever sign up with them in their opportunity because people don't have money to spend right now.

The reality is that we are positioned extremely well to take advantage of what is known as 'the perfect storm.' As usual it is all about mindset and attitude. If you convince yourself that no one is joining with you then of course the chances are that no one will.... And that will apply whether you are in the midst of a credit crunch or in the most prosperous year in the history of the world.

Let's say you are a mostly positive person who is following your company's personal development programme and engaging in the correct business building activity to have prospects looking at your business model.

After they have reviewed the material, there are a couple of possible responses from your prospect such as, 'no thanks it's not for me.' I can never understand these guys but have given up trying long ago. As Jim Rohn says 'it's a mystery so don't sign up for that class.'

Most often prospects are intrigued and interested but a little scared of the unknown. Network Marketing is either not familiar to them or they have failed miserably in the past and are anxious about whether they can make it happen this time.

Our job is simply to bring them through the business building process (the system) until they can make a decision either way. The picture needs to get a little larger and brighter as you take them through the process so for instance they will review some kind of information about the opportunity.

Then you will be following up with them at a pre-arranged time and if they have a positive reaction i.e. they want to know more you can then introduce them to your business partner by phone, or take them to the next step... whatever that may be in your system.

Now the number one 'objection' that my downline come up against is the 'Yes I want to do it but I need to get the money together.' Pay careful attention to this because of course in these precarious economic times you and your downline are likely to come up against this excuse more and more.

So how do we handle this little gem? You could say, 'oh poor you....yes I quite understand. I know how bad the situation is now. Give me a call when you're ready.'

Warning: If you say that please don't wait around for their call because you will more than likely have a very long and tedious wait. Also please stop boring the pants off your upline talking about 'Joe' who is definitely joining at the end of the month! (Yawn)

So what could you say? Firstly just commit not to buy people's excuses. If your prospect genuinely wants to change their economic situation they need to change what they are doing because working at the local DIY store is not achieving it for them. MLM is their best chance to create a six figure income no matter what their background and financial resources.

Have it straight in your head that signing up in a great MLM programme is an investment. It is not something to be done with the spare money left over from the Tesco shop, or the copper in the biscuit tin. If your prospect wants a new sofa do you think they save up for it like 50 years ago? No of course they don't. They use a credit card, or they visit the bank and arrange a loan, or they dip into their savings.

So when your prospect says that to you it is your job to help them to understand that this is an investment in their future, not a luxury expense. This is a business and just because it doesn't cost 10k or 100k to get started they still need to arrange their finances to cover it, in a business like way.

Here's what I say, 'well that's great that you want to get started John. We help team members to get their initial investment back quick. When I started I didn't have the money sitting around waiting for me either, but it was important to me to do this and I understood that it is an investment. There is no benefit to delaying if this is something you want to do. I used my credit card and have never looked back. How do you plan on getting started and how soon do you think that will be?'

Here you will see whether you have a real prospect or a real suspect! If someone is genuinely intending to join they will come up with some kind of reasonable answer and your comments will make them think seriously about how to arrange their funding.

If they cannot come up with an answer and just start making excuses you can move them off your 'hot list.'

This will save you hours and hours of dreaming about and banking on people joining your business who frankly have no intention of ever doing so. Bashing the same prospect over the head time and time again uses up too much precious energy and you can be inviting many other people to review the business instead.

On a final note, in times of recession the Network Marketing industry attracts better quality professional people than in any other. This is because when times are tough, the tough get going. People become more open to review other types of business and opportunity. They suddenly really need a second income and are willing to do what it takes to get one.

When everything is rosy and the corporate world is stable, those highly paid executives will sometimes look at Network Marketing because they want a better lifestyle and more time with their family etc. but now we have everybody open and looking no matter what their background and income.

So next time you are watching the news (if you must!) remember that the media is doing a great job of being your personal press agency. They are spreading doom, gloom and panic which in turn provokes activity to look for security. Enter the home business.

Here you can prosper if you position yourself right, not as a seller of business packs but as a solution provider in these difficult times.
